Filoli

On Thursday, we visited Filoli, an estate tucked away below the Santa Cruz mountains about 10 miles north of here. You can find out more about Filoli here. We took a 2 hour docent-led tour of the gardens and the house. The scenery was incredible!

One of the many flower gardens

These pillars are from ships that rotted in port because none of the traders wanted to leave after arriving in the Bay Area (sounds familiar...). The owner of the estate collected the pillars and put them at the top of the grounds.

The pool has a white ceramic tile bottom and water jets at the far end. It was very hard to resist jumping in!

The garden house.

A view down one of the lawns.

Our new kitchen will be a bit smaller...

The house has 41 rooms, including this massive ballroom.

...with a massive fireplace! We tried to travel by floo powder, but no luck...
